Portfolio > Growth

This body of work includes sculptures made of modular paper and chocolate forms on support structures. These shapes reference growth patterns of mosses, fungi, scales, and other naturally occurring patterns. Inspiration comes from a scientific standpoint of studying and categorizing nature as well as the beauty of the shapes and forms. Process is extremely important in creating these works. The repetitive task of altering and adding shapes gives individual modules unique form and allows for immediate response and change when creating pieces. Through the use of white paper and white chocolate, close relationships are developed between the pieces and the gallery wall.
Each piece has a life of its own, and the works are displayed in a group to enforce the idea of naturally occurring growth in a larger space. This encourages viewers to interact with the works and their environment. The work provokes the viewer to question the forms by appearing both familiar and foreign. The works can be experienced through multiple senses, including sight, scent, and taste.
